Here are a few questions to use either in a group setting or individually after reading What We Talk about When We Talk About God by Rob Bell.
1. In chapter 1, Rob Bell says the three words that are key to how he feels about God are: With, For, and Ahead (described in pp.18-19). What are the three words that are central to how you feel about God? Are they different from the author’s words?
2. The author speaks of ways of knowing, and on page 69 says, “there are other ways of knowing than only those of the intellect.” What are some ways of knowing that you find yourself using?
3. When Rob Bell speaks of God being for us, he says, “We all need recovery” (p. 151). What is it like for you to consider how God can be for each person, even for us, regardless of our individual sins, regrets, and behaviors?
4. The author says God is ahead of us, pulling us forward. What does that mean to you?
